A fertile egg is the result of hens and roosters mating. They contain both male and female genetic material.
Fertile eggs are not the same as found in grocery stores, however there is a trend of eating these eggs among Paleo and raw followers who claim that the consumption of these eggs are more nutritious and healthy.
A fertile egg can be identified by a process called 'candling' (shining a bright light through the egg in a dark room) after a few days in the incubator. If the egg is fertile, a dark spot should be visible of the egg with some spider-like veins beginning to form around it.
If the egg is not fertile, you should just see the shape of the yellow yolk with no signs of veins.
Candling should be done at different stages of the incubation process usually around the 4th, 10th and 17th day in order to identify whether the fertile egg is developing or not.
At Eggcelerate we source quality fertile eggs direct from the farmers. To ensure that we always have a fresh supply of, eggs we dont hold stock of fertile eggs and a pre-order is required.
